Trains restart after 17 days, railways incurs ₹12-cr losses

Estimated losses of Northern-Western Railway (NWR) due to the late August violence in the aftermath of the Dera Sacha Sauda head's rape trial and conviction have crossed ₹12 crore, a senior divisional officer said here on Monday.

CR Kumawat, senior divisional commercial manager, NWR division said, “We have calculated the total loss including goods and passengers train. The total loss is ₹12,50,25,000 after more than 20 trains (goods and passenger) where trains were cancelled.”

However, the deputy director of the informatio­n department, Satish Mehra on Sunday, confirmed that all the trains and mobile net will be restored from Monday.

About 15 passenger and express trains and along with five goods trains were cancelled from August 25 to September 10.

CR Kumawat,senior divisional commercial manager, NWR division said more than 3,53 lakh passengers (daily commuters) faced problems due to the cancellati­ons on the Bathinda to Hisar via Sirsa route.

A daily commuter Vijay Kumar said, “I travel to Hisar daily because of my job and the cheap way to travel to Hisar is only trains. The one side fare from Sirsa to Hisar by Haryana roadways bus is ₹75 and from train is just ₹45. We have travel passes which cost only ₹15 both ways.”

Another passenger, Ram Singh of Sirsa, said that he travels to Bhattu of Fatehabad district everyday. “To reach Bhattu from Sirsa you need to change two buses. But train service is like boon for commuters, as train journey also save time,” he added.

Sirsa station superinten­dent (SS), Amar Singh said, “After getting orders of the cancellati­on of the trains, the railway cancelled all the trains from Sirsa to various area from August 25.”

He added that the Sirsa railway station earns more than ₹2 lakh everyday, they have sent the report to authoritie­s.
