FEROZEPUR: Proposing a Bhagat Singh National Employment Guarantee Act (BNEGA) to “permanently eliminate the problem of unemployment” in India, said Leftist student leader Kanhaiya Kumar said at National Martyr Memorial in Hussainiwala near here on Tuesday.
He was speaking at the conclusion of a 60-day march by All India Students’ Union and Sarv Bharat Hind Naujawan Sabha, among other outfits.
The proposed legislation aims at “employment for all the members of society according to abilities, and pay according to work”.
“We will get what we want, and we want total employment for society,” said Kanhaiya, a research scholar and former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, New Delhi. He had hit the headlines last year after alleged anti-national slogans on the JNU campus led to his and others’ arrest.
The march, started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on July 15, wants BNEGA, security for public organisations, improvement in the election system, reservation in the private sector, and stern action in cases of atrocities against people of reserved categories.
