Two days on, police clueless on missing newborn
AFTER QUESTIONING OF HOSPITAL STAFF AND OTHER PATIENTS’ ATTENDANTS, COPS ANNOUNCE ₹50,000 REWARD FOR INFO ON BABY BOY
More than 48 hours after a newborn boy went missing from the gynaecology ward of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, the police and hospital authorities have not been able to trace him anywhere.
The police, after questioning the hospital staff and attendants of other patients over two days, have now announced Rs 50,000 reward on information leading to the recovery of the newborn.
Rohtak’s Dairy Mohalla resident Sunny Kumar’s wife Ranju had given birth to a boy in hospital on Sunday afternoon. Just 15 minutes later, their family was told that their newborn had gone missing. The incident highlighted serious security lapse on the part of the largest hospital in Haryana.
The family members, supported by their neighbours, are now sitting on a dharna outside the gynaecology ward in PGIMS. “The mother of the boy has not been able to come to terms with his disappearance. She is not eating anything. Other family members did not even see the face of their boy before they were told the devastating news,” said a neighbour who was sitting on the dharna.
Rohtak superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Nain said they have formed several teams under DSP Ravinder to trace the baby. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities said they were examining a report of the four-member internal committee they had formed to probe the incident.
