PATNA: In a setback to the Sharad Yadav-led JD(U) camp, the Election Commission on Tuesday rejected its plea staking its claim on the party symbol ‘arrow’.

The EC decision comes close on the heels of the Rajya Sabha secretariat asking Yadav and the other rebel party MP, Ali Anwar, to respond within a week to their party’s petition seeking their disqualification from the Rajya Sabha membership for their “anti-party activities”.

In its order, the commission has said that the Yadav group did not produce any supporting document to show that they have an adequate support of the legislative wing and the organisational wing, which qualifies them to make it the ‘splinter group of the party within the meaning of paragraph 15 of Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968’. The Yadav group had on August 25 made a representation before the EC claiming that they were the rightful heir to the party symbol.

JD(U) SUPPORTS ‘ONE NATION ONE ELECTION’

JD(U) president Bashistha Narain Singh said his party was all in for holding simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections if all parties reached a consensus.

“We are ready for mid-term polls if the Election Commission is willing and there is general consensus among all political parties,” Singh said.
