India win two gold, one silver at Asian Indoor Games

India added two gold, one silver and two bronze medals to their kitty on the fifth day to continue their impressive show in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games here on Wednesday.

Ajay Kumar Saroj won the gold in men’s 1500m race, clocking 3 minute and 48.67 seconds, while Arpinder Singh also fetched gold in men’s triple jump with a best effort of 16.21m.

In track cycling, Deborah Herold won a silver in women’s 200m individual sprint race.

Neha Solanki and Jyoti bagged a bronze each in women’s kurash +87kg and -87kg respective­ly.

DAHIYA TO LEAD INDIA A

Goalkeeper Vikas Dahiya will lead an 18-member India ‘A’ men’s team at the Australian Hockey League (AHL) 2017, starting September 28 in Perth.

The team will feature the likes of goalkeeper Krishan B Pathak, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Gurinder Singh, Anand Lakra, Baljit Singh and Vikramjit Singh in defence.

Harjeet Singh, Ashish Kumar Topno and Nilakanta Sharma will be the mainstays of the midfield.

The forward line will be led by Armaan Qureshi , Affan Yousuf and Talwinder Singh.

This will be the second consecutiv­e season that teams from India and New Zealand will feature in the Australian Hockey League.

DANI WINS U-23 TT TITLE

Table tennis player Mudit Dani won the under-23 title in the prestigiou­s 2017 Butterfly Badger Open in the United States. Playing in a highly competitiv­e field in the $16,000 prize money tournament, Mudit beat Polishborn Wojciech Wolski 9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-7 in the final to clinch the title late on Sunday night.
