40-yr-old man shot dead, ₹2 lakh looted

Two bike-borne men allegedly kidnapped a person from Gandhi Chowk and later shot him dead near Taragarh village after robbing ₹2 lakh from him, here on Thursday.

As per the available informatio­n, the deceased, Jaspal,40,of Awanka village under Dinanagar police station was working as an accountant with Ganesh Transport Company in Gurdaspur.

The company had got a transporta­tion contract from Food Corporatio­n of India and on Thursday morning, Jaspal was returning to Batala to pay the truck drivers.

Transport company owner Ganesh Kumar said, at around 10.45 am, he dropped Jaspal at Gurdaspur bus stand with ₹2 lakh and at 11.50 am, he called him to know about his location.

“Jaspal told me that he had reached Batala bus stand and will reach FCI godown in 10 minutes,” Kumar said.

After half- an- hour, he again called Jaspal but his calls remained unanswered.

Following which Ganesh called the drivers at FCI godown, who told that Jaspal Singh had not reached. Later, he got a call from Jaspal’s mobile and a policeman told him that the victim’s body was found near Taragarh village.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP), Batala, Opinderjee­t Singh Ghuman was not available for comments.

Station house officer (SHO) Qila Lal Singh police station, Mohit Kumar said that they were trying to get the CCTV footage installed at the shops near the crime spot.

The identity of the accused will be establishe­d soon, the SHO added.
