3 held for assaulting cop, tearing his uniform

POLICE STOPPED TWO BIKEBORNE YOUTHS FOR CHECKING; FAILING TO SHOW DOCUMENTS, COPS TOOK THE BIKE IN THEIR POSSESSION AND ISSUED CHALLAN

JALANDHAR: The Mehatpur police have arrested a man and his two sons for allegedly assaulting a cop and tearing his uniform on Tuesday.

The incident happened when the cop was on duty, on Monday.

As per the first informatio­n report (FIR), constable Sukhchain Singh in his complaint said that he along with Punjab Home Guard (PHG) Surjeet Singh was on duty outside Mehatpur bus stand.

They stopped two bike-borne youths for checking. He said that failing to show documents, the police took the bike in their possession and issued a challan to the duo.

The youths have been identified as Prabhdeep and Gurpreet. Both are brothers and in 20s.

Constable Sukhchain Singh said that after an hour, the duo brought their father Surjeet and misbehaved with them.

They also tore the constable’s uniform and thrashed Punjab Home Guard due to which he sustained injuries.

The trio have booked under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 186 (obstructin­g public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code.
