Final arguments commence in Chattrapati murder case
PANCHKULA: The final arguments in the Chhatrapati murder case, in which Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is the main accused, began in the special CBI court here on Wednesday.
CBI counsel started the arguments by reading out the statements of main witnesses in the case. The court then deferred the matter to November 24.
Besides Ram Rahim, who is currently undergoing 20-year imprisonment in Rohtak’s Sunariya jail in two rape cases, dera manager Krishan Lal and two sharp-shooters Kuldeep Singh and Nirmal Singh are the main accused.
Journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati was shot at a pointblank range at his residence in Sirsa on October 24, 2002, months after his newspaper ‘Poora Sach’ published an anonymous letter narrating how women finding solace in the dera as sadhvis were sexually harassed and raped by the dera chief.
His son Anshul has been fighting the legal battle in the CBI court, the same court that convicted the dera chief guilty of raping two Sadhavis on August 25.
Meanwhile, the final arguments continued in the murder case of Ranjit Singh, a former dera manager. In this case soo, the dera chief is the main conspirator. The defence counsel has been leading the arguments. The matter was deferred on October 31.
