‘I will quit if Captain, Sukhbir do the same’

-

CHANDIGARH: Leader of opposition Sukhpal Khaira on Wednesday said he will resign from his post if both CM Captain Amarinder Singh and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal also offer to quit their positions to uphold ethics and morality in politics.

Reacting to Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar’s demand for his resignation in wake of court summons in a drugs case, Khaira said the Congress and Akali leaders were seeking his resignation, but Amarinder, Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Badal never resigned from their positions of power despite being summoned in corruption cases. “When the two Badals took oath as the chief minister and deputy CM in 2007, they were not only summoned by the court but also chargesheeted. Similarly, Capt is also facing trial in Ludhiana City Centre and Amritsar Improvement Trust cases. If they refuse to quit, I advise their cronies not to speak about ethics and morality.”

Denying any involvement in the drugs case, the AAP leader accused the Congress government of political vendetta to gag his voice against corruption and other misdeeds. “I was neither named in the FIR nor in the chargesheet. If making phone calls to an accused was an offence, Amarinder must explain his meetings with an international tax evader during his recent visit to London,” he alleged in a press conference earlier in the day, showing photos of the two together.
