Mid­day meal: Govt re­leases funds for 20 days, teachers de­mand full grant

JA­LAND­HAR : The teachers un­der the Demo­cratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) Union on Tues­day or­gan­ised a meet and de­cided not to serve the mid-day meal in schools un­til gov­ern­ment clears dues along with one-month ad­vance money to run the scheme.

The gov­ern­ment, how­ever, on Mon­day had re­leased funds for 20 days to run the scheme in Kapurthala dis­trict. Gov­ern­ment teachers in 650 schools of the dis­trict have not re­ceived any grant un­der the mid-day meal scheme from the state gov­ern­ment since Au­gust. The teachers un­der the had also sub­mit­ted a mem­o­ran­dum to the dis­trict ed­u­ca­tion of­fi­cer (pri­mary) de­mand­ing re­lease of funds. But to no avail.

Union mem­ber Sukhdev Se­nior said, “This is not pos­si­ble for us now. The Union has con­veyed this to all those pay­ing from their pocket to stop serv­ing food from next Mon­day.”
