Midday meal: Govt releases funds for 20 days, teachers demand full grant

-

JALANDHAR : The teachers under the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) Union on Tuesday organised a meet and decided not to serve the mid-day meal in schools until government clears dues along with one-month advance money to run the scheme.

The government, however, on Monday had released funds for 20 days to run the scheme in Kapurthala district. Government teachers in 650 schools of the district have not received any grant under the mid-day meal scheme from the state government since August. The teachers under the had also submitted a memorandum to the district education officer (primary) demanding release of funds. But to no avail.

Union member Sukhdev Senior said, “This is not possible for us now. The Union has conveyed this to all those paying from their pocket to stop serving food from next Monday.”
