Twin road mishaps kill 7 in Moga
MOGA: Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Moga on Saturday.
In the first incident, five people, all labourers, were killed while six others injured after a jeep they were travelling in rammed into a tree on the Baghapurana-Bhagta Bhai Ka road.
The accident took place when the driver lost control over the vehicle while saving a cyclist.
The deceased have been identified as Sewak Singh, 26, Vicky, 22, Badal, 45, Hansa Singh, 55, and Jagdev Singh, 28. Gursewak Singh, Sahib Singh, Ranjit Singh, Satnam Singh and Gurpreet Singh sustained injuries.
The vehicle was not insured and the driver was without a licence, said the police.
In another accident, two people were killed when a scooter collided with a motorcycle in Baghapurana.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Singh, 50, a resident of Chandbaja village in Faridkot district, and Amritpal Singh, 22, of Hariyawala in Moga.
The accident took place on the Korowala link road due to low visibility.
Ranjit was on his way to attend a birthday party of his niece along with his two daughters, Kirandeep Kaur, Kamalpreet Kaur and niece, Simareet Kaur, while Amritpal was coming from Moga with his mother.
The injured have been admitted to the Moga government hospital.
