DRUG ADDICT KILLS WIFE, BURNS HER BODY

A 48-year-old man, allegedly a drug addict, reportedly stabbed his wife to death and burnt her dead body at their home at Verka locality here on Sunday morning.

The accused, Kulwant Singh, who works as a helper in a factory, has three children, two daughters and a son. His daughters are married and he lived with his wife Kanwaljit Kaur, 44, and son Sarabjit Singh, 22.

Police said the accused is addict to alcohol and other drugs and did not contribute financiall­y in the family. Instead, he demanded money from his son, a factory worker, and often indulged in heated arguments with his wife, police said.

On Saturday night, Sarabjit was on night shift at the factory. When he returned, he found the door locked. Soon to be married, Sarabjit thought his parents must have gone for the wedding preparatio­ns.

However, when he peeped inside from a window, he saw smoke emanating from a room. He then entered the house from the roof of a neighbour and saw his mother’s dead body engulfed in fire, partially burnt.

He raised an alarm and also informed the police. Police Srivastava, along with a team, rushed to the spot.

Referring to Sarabjit’s statement, police sources said that the woman was murdered with sharp-edged weapons before being set afire. They said that the accused allegedly set the body on fire to show suicide.

Station house officer (SHO) of Verka police station Jaspreet Singh said they were investigat­ing the matter. He said on the statement of Sarabjit, a case was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and hunt was on o nab the absconding accused.
