9 LOOT, BURN BASMATI CROP IN TARN TARAN, FIR REGISTERED

TARN TARAN : Around nine days after nine people allegedly looted and destroyed Basmati crop by setting it afire in a field of Bhail Dhai Wala village, 30 km from here, Goindwal Sahib police booked them on Sunday.

The accused are Kabal Singh, Harinder Singh, Gurjinder Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Parkash Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Hardev Singh, Shankar Singh and Gurjit Singh of the same village.

victim Major Singh, 56, said the reason behind the delay in filing the FIR was that he wanted to reach a compromise with the accused.

“I want to solve the matter amicably, but the accused are not in favour of it, At last, I complained to the police”, the farmer said.

Major Singh said he had sown Basmati at his 5-kanal farm in the village.

“On November 24, the accused forcefully harvested and looted the crop over around 3.5 kanal, and destroyed the remaining crop by setting it afire.” “One of the accused Kabal Singh also opened indiscrimi­nate firing in the air for creating fear,” he added.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Manjit Singh said a case under sections 379 (punishment for theft), 336 (act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the accused, who are absconding.
