Will defeat the BJP without insulting Modi, says Rahul

The Congress on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “lying through his teeth” on his promises made to Gujarat and the country, while asking why the PM was spending so much time attacking party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing four rallies two days before the campaign for Gujarat polls ends, Gandhi wondered why the PM was devoting half of his speech to the Congress, the party he claimed he had finished.

“And he devotes the rest of the time of his speech to speak about himself,” he said. The Cong leader also claimed that Modi was changing narrative every second day as he was nervous and afraid of losing assembly elections. “Where has your tall talk of development suddenly vanished? You have little to report of the last 22 years of BJP govt in Gujarat. This is why you need all this, Modiji,” Gandhi said.

He said the PM’s words should carry weight but they did not as he had been lying through his teeth on every promise he made.

“Narendra Modi had said you will get ₹15 lakh in your bank accounts, you did not get even 15 paise,” Gandhi said.

He also said Modi had promised in 2014 that he would create two crore jobs every year and ensure farmers get the right returns for their produce.

“Is this happening?” Gandhi asked. In response, the crowds roared back: “No, no.” In the

same vein, he promised creation of jobs, relief to farmers and empowerment of deprived sections when the Congress came to power in Gujarat.

Gandhi, who started his campaign on Sunday at Lord Krishna’s Ranchhod Raiji Mandir, said Modi was not raising the issue of development as the truth had caught up with BJP and it could go nowhere.
