J&K to move court for pardons to stone pelters

Is part of its move to review cases filed against stonepelte­rs in the state and grant amnesty to the first-timers, the J&K government has recommende­d a review in 850 cases against 4,961 people and plans to move local courts for closing these cases, officials said. J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti had announced amnesty to first-time stone pelters earlier in the year.

: In a joint operation, a team of police and security forces have busted a hideout in Gamir-Mughla Bowl in Thanamandi in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Meanwhile, another militant hideout was busted in the state’s Poonch district and some arms and ammunition were recovered from there.

The joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police has recovered one rocket propelled grenade (RPG), one AK-47, two pistols and sizeable quantity of AK and PIKA ammunition from the hideout in Rajouri on the intervenin­g night of December 17 and 18. They succeeded in locating the militant hideout there.

The hideout in Poonch was in Choti Bati area of Mendhar sector. The Army has recovered one AK-47 rifle with four magazines and 282 rounds of ammunition, besides one Chinese pistol and one rocket propelled grenade (RPG).

Defence spokesman said, this successful operation has foiled the nefarious designs of terrorists­to vitiate the existing security environmen­t in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch. HTC
