Tarn Taran police crack Axis Bank dacoity cases, 2 held

POLICE RECOVERED ₹4L, 625GM HEROIN, TWO PISTOLS, 4 CARTRIDGES, 1,800 INTOXICANT TABLETS AND A CAR FROM KEY ACCUSED

TARNTARAN : The district police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked three dacoity cases, including two in Axis Bank branches in Tarn Taran, with the arrest of two members, including a woman, of robbers’ gang from Gandiwind village, 30 km from here and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar here. The male accused is kingpin of he gang.

The police have recovered ₹4 lakh, 625gm heroin, two pistols, four cartridges, 1,800 intoxicant tablets and a car from the possession of the key accused. The arrested accused are Sakandarpa­l Singh of Gandiwind and Ranbir Kaur of Tarn Taran, who is mother of one of the gang members, Pun jab Singh.

However, four members of the gang, Punjab Singh of Tarn Taran, Jobanjit Singh and Jaswant Kaur of Havellian village, and Sarabjit Singh of Tarn Taran are yet to be arrested.

SSP Darshan Singh Mann, addressing a press conference, said, “The gang had committed three dacoities in the district, in the past two months. They looted ₹6 lakh from a branch of the Axis Bank at Ghurkwind village on November 3, ₹7 lakh from the Axis Bank branch in Naurangaba­d village on December 15 and around ₹7,000 from Auto Fuel station employees at Sarhali on November 5.”

“The accused had already been booked under sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on), 394 (voluntaril­y causing hurt in committing robbery), 379-B (punishment for theft) of IPC and 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act,” he added.
