INDIAN GIRLS THRASH NEPAL 100 IN SAFF U15 FOOTBALL C’SHIP

Devi and Sunita Munda struck hat-tricks as India’s under-15 women’s football team scored five goals in each half to thump Nepal 10-0 in the SAFF Championsh­ip here on Tuesday.

Hat-tricks by Priyanka Devi and Sunita Munda was compliment­ed by a brace from Lynda Kom, with goals from Santhiya and Anay Bayi completing the rout. Lynda Kom had opened the scoring in the fourth minute as India went on to pile the pressure on their northern neighbours.

India face Bangladesh on December 21 in their final group encounter.

DELHI CLOSE IN ON WIN

Delhi need 115 runs to emerge victorious in the U-23 Col CK Nayudu Tournament after they bundled out Mumbai for 267 in their second innings on the third day of the four-day final played here.

Set a target of 238, Delhi were cruising at 123/2 at stumps on day three with wicketkeep­er Anuj Rawat (68 not out) and Jonty Sidhu (15) at the crease. Their opener Hiten Dalal (1) could not score big. In the first innings, Mumbai were bundled out for 230 while Delhi had managed to post 260/9 declared.

JR NBA WORLDS

Two teams from India will compete at the inaugural Junior National Basketball Associatio­n (NBA) World Championsh­ips in the US from 7-12 August next year.

The top performers in the 5-on-5 competitio­ns from the Reliance Foundation Jr NBA Programme will make for a city All-Star Team.

One boys and one girls team from each of the eight participat­ing cities will be selected to compete in a National Final. Winners of the National Final will then represent India at the Jr NBA World Championsh­ip, a media release said.

Teams from Africa and Middle East, Asia Pacific, Canada, China, Europe, Mexico and South America will also take part.

BAGAN HELD BY NEROCA

Bagan were held to a goalless draw by debutants Neroca FC in an I-League match here on Tuesday.

Much to the delight of the Mariners’ fans, Sony Norde and Ansumana Kromah were back after they saw their side share honours with Shillong Lajong. The duo suffered injuries against Churchill Brothers. The Manipuri outfit looked content with the draw but Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen will be worried about his captain Norde’s injury.
