Stuck in Saudi Arabia: Goraya woman’s kin seek Centre’s help
A video of Jyoti went viral on social media last week where she was seen requesting Indian authorities to rescue her
Neither have we received any communication from the government nor AAP MP Bhagwant Mann, despite his assurance.
JALANDHAR: Family of 34-year-old Jeewan Jyoti, a resident of Rurrke-Khurad village near Goraya — who is reportedly trapped in Saudi Arabia — is worried about her well-being as they have not been able to communicate with her for the past three weeks.
A video of Jyoti had gone viral on the social media last week where she could be seen requesting the AAP state convener and legislator, Bhagwant Mann, and the Indian government to rescue her.
Her husband, Sudarshan Kumar, said that taking the offer made by a local travel agent as an opportunity to support her family financially, Jyoti had decided to go to Riyadh.
“The local travel agent had lured her with handsome salary and free accommodation in the Gulf country around four months ago,” Kumar said.
He said that for the past three weeks, no one from the family has heard from her as her mobile phone continues to be switched off. “We had requested the Centre and Bhagwant Mann, too, had assured us of bringing her back safely,” he added. “However, we have not received any response from either,” Kumar said.
The family said that they had also registered a complaint against the travel agent with the Jalandhar senior superintendent of police (SSP), Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, on Saturday but no action was initiated.
Jyoti had told her family a few weeks ago that she was living a miserable life in Saudi and her landlord also used to exploit her physically and mentally.
It was learnt that Jyoti was held captive in the house by her employer. In her video, Jyoti had said that her life has become miserable in Riyadh.
“I am not allowed to sleep before 3am. I am made to do all kinds of chores. I request the Indian government and Bhagwant Mann to rescue me as soon as possible,” she had said. Meanwhile, senior superintendent of police said that investigation was on and a case will be registered.
