After a video on social media went viral of three Class-5 students of Government Elementary School, Mundian Kalan, carrying buckets of waste a kilometre to the dump during study hours on Thursday, the district education officer, elementary, Jaspreet Kaur, suspended the cluster head teacher, Charanjit Kaur, and transferred Savita, another teacher, to Government Primary School, Iraq, in Macchiwara block, on Friday.

A village resident, Anil Arora, captured the students carrying the heavy buckets on video.

The DEO said, “The head teacher (Charanjit) was directed to give an explanation regrading the video that went viral on Thursday , but she failed to give a satisfactory reply, due to which she was suspended.” She underlined that the other teacher (Savita) was transferred “as a punishment”. She said, “Students are supposed to sit in classrooms, but they are forced to do labour work. So, we have punished the teachers. This will be a lesson for other teachers, and now they will not ask any student to do any kind of labour work in school hours.”

She added, “For the other five teachers at the school, a warning letter will be issued not to force any student to get involved in any such physical work.”
