MOHALI: A local court on Wednesday convicted former Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu aka Ravi Sidhu, in disproportionate assets case. He has been sent to Ropar Jail. Sentence in this case would be pronounced on January 15 by the court.

The additional district and sessions judge Monika Goyal convicted him in the case related recovery of money from his and his close relatives’ bank accounts in a private bank. The court also found him guilty in a Solan property case where he allegedly forged documents to secure the property in his name.

In April 2015, a Patiala court had sentenced him to seven-year rigorous jail in a job scam case. However, the high court had suspended the imprisonment in August that year.

Other accused Randhir Singh Dheera, Gurdeep Singh Manchanda, Surinder Kaur, Paramjeet Singh and Prem Sagar were acquitted by the court, it has been learnt.

He was held guilty under Sections 467 (forgery of security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine as forged document), 474 (having possession of documents under section 466,467) and 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. A number of recruitments made by the Punjab Public Service Commission were cancelled by the then Congress government.
