HP GOVT NOT COOPERATIN­G IN KOTKHAI PROBE, CBI TELLS HC

: The Central Bureau of Investigat­ion (CBI) has accused the Himachal Pradesh government of non-cooperatio­n in probe into the Kotkhai rape and murder case.

The agency on Wednesday filed an affidavit along with a fresh status report in the Himachal Pradesh high court on the sensationa­l case.

Expressing displeasur­e on non-cooperatio­n, the CBI alleged that they haven’t been given rooms, their internet is not working and phone connection­s have been cut.

CBI director filed an affidavit as per directions of the high court. The court has fixed March 28 for further hearing in the matter.

CBI counsel Anshul Bansal said, “The affidavit has been filed and we are investigat­ing the case. New things will emerge in the.” The high court bench of acting chief justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma, meanwhile, asked the CBI to speed up probe.

The HC had directed the state in July to provide assistance to the agency investigat­ing Kotkhai gangrape and murder case. CBI is also investigat­ing the custodial death case of an accused.

On December 15 last year, the CBI announced a reward of ₹10 lakh for providing credible informatio­n resulting in the arrest of accused. The girl had gone missing in Kotkhai of Shimla district in July last year and her bare body was recovered on July 6. After postmortem confirmed rape and murder, a case was registered and six persons were held.

Both the matters - rape-andmurder case and custodial death case of an accused- were handed to the CBI on July 19.
