FARIDKOT : More than 18 months after three men, one of them a juvenile, allegedly raped a 40-year-old woman at a house in Kotkapura, separate police inquiries have submitted contradictory reports.

SP (headquarters) Bahadur Singh has now given clean chit to the man accused, Deepak Kumar, 21. In addition to him, a juvenile and Ravi, 26, are booked in cases of rape and extortion registered against them at Kotkapura City police station in October 2017. The rape is said to have taken place in August 2016.

The latest report of the SP contradicts previous investigation report of sub-inspector Charanjit Kaur on September 28, 2017, that had recommended action against the accused. On September 30, the Kotkapura DSP also agreed with this report and sent it to the district attorney. Finally, the trio was booked after clearance from the district attorney. The SP had conducted the latest inquiry on an order from the SSP. The SSP based the re-inquiry decision on a written request from the father of the accused on October 23, 2017.

The complainant had said that the main accused Deepak had destroyed his family. In the previous inquiry that the DSP had found to be in order, police had claimed that Deepak had called the woman to his friend’s house and raped her at knife-point. The case is now in court and a challan has been filed.

SP Bahadur Singh said, “You may come to my office and I will respond.”
