his silence over the increasing and rape and murder cases in Haryana, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that the state will bring a law for awarding death penalty to those found guilty of raping girls below the age of 12.

The chief minister, however, did not clarify whether the government will also change the law to increase punishment for juvenile accused in rape cases

He said that the state government will also request the Centre to set up of fast-track courts for dealing with rape cases so that speedy justice can be ensured.

Expressing anguish over the recent incidents of rape in the state, the CM said that though the police was dealing with such cases as required under the law, it had been decided to make a provision for harsher punishment for rape.

Speaking about the “fake rape cases” in the state, Khattar said, “The media should not create sensation by publishing reports on rape incidents without verifying facts.”

“As per last year’s figures, at least 25% rape cases registered with the police were later found to false. Earlier, complainants used to have a tough time getting FIRs registered but today not even a single person can claim non-registration of FIRs,” the CM.

INAUGURATES CO-OP SUGAR MILL IN KARNAL

Later addressing the public after inaugurating a cooperative sugar mill in Karnal, the CM accepted the demand to widen the Meerut road from Karnal to UP border.

The Haryana chief minister said the BJP government in the state was only well-wisher of the farmers and it has accepted the long-pending demand of new sugar mill in Karnal.

He said that the state government was also working to double the income of farmers by 2022 as announced by Prime Minister

Narendra Modi.

The CM also started a city bus service.

MSP FOR MAIZE

Khattar said that Maize would also be procured on minimum support price (MSP) in Haryana after the government’s decision to restart the procurement of Bajra and sunflower seeds on MSP which was discontinued by the previous government.

The Bajra and Maize so purchased would be utilised under public distribution system (PDS).

He said that with the setting up of new cooperative sugar mill,

60 lakh quintal of sugarcane would be crushed during the crushing season besides generating 15 MW of electricity.

Out of the total electricity produced by this mill, 10.50 MW would be sold to the power utilities which would generate an additional income of ₹15 crore to the sugar mill.

Speaking on Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, Khattar said that the state government would urge the Central government for early execution of the Supreme Court order on SYL canal so that Haryana could get its rightful share in river waters.
