Govt has failed to protect border villagers: Oppn

JAMMU: The opposition comprising the National Conference and the Congress on Saturday protested and then staged a walkout from the J& K legislativ­e assembly over the alleged failure of the People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party (PDPBJP) government in safeguardi­ng border villagers in the present flare up on the Internatio­nal Border and line-of-control.

A soldier and a 17-year-old boy, among four were killed in fresh skirmishes on Saturday, taking the death toll to 10 and the number of injured to 41 since Wednesday.

Soon after speaker Kavinder Gupta entered the house to conduct day’s business, the opposition members stood up from their seats and started raising slogans against the Centre and the PDPBJP government before staging a walkout to protest the killings of hapless villagers.

Relief and rehabilita­tion minister Javaid Mustafa Mir of the PDP, while trying to pacify the opposition, said a detailed report was being prepared. He also said he has already directed the home secretary to prepare the same.

for its failure to protect the villagers of the border areas.

Making a suo-moto statement in the House, health minister Bali Bhagat said adequate and elaborativ­e arrangemen­ts have been made by the department to deal with the situation.
