32yearold out to relieve herself gangraped in UP

A 32-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped when she went to attend nature’s call in Ujahani area of Badaun on Friday morning, police said.

The woman was admitted to government hospital in Badaun for medical examinatio­n from where she was transferre­d to Bareilly District Hospital on Saturday morning. Her condition is stable. Medical examinatio­n confirmed rape. Initial reports had said she was pregnant, but this was ruled out in the medical examinatio­n.

Station house officer of Ujahani police station Rajiv Kumar Sharma was suspended on Saturday for delay in registerin­g the case. Sharma was asked to report to Badaun police lines.

“The incident took place in Nagar Kachhala area which falls under Ujahani police station. Family members of the woman lodged a complaint and police are investigat­ing the matter,” said senior superinten­dent of police, Badaun, Chandra Prakash.

According to the complaint, the woman left home to relieve herself early in the morning. “She was overpowere­d by a group of men while she was returning home.

They forced her to a secluded place in the fields and gang-raped her,” the complaint says. It is not clear how many men were involved.

Family members claimed they found her unconsciou­s. “She was lying on the edge of a field and her clothes were torn. I carried her back home... when she regained consciousn­ess she narrated incident ,” her husband said. HTC
