A day after a 28-year-old woman was killed after her hair was caught in a wheel of a go-kart in Pinjore, the Haryana tourism department has instructed officials to check all swings and rides in amusement parks across the state.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when Puneet Kaur of Rampura Phul in Bathinda visited Aqua Village, an amusement park adjacent to Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore, along with her husband Amardeep Singh, a farmer, and twoyear-old son, besides other family members.

Terming the incident unfortunate, director and special secretary, Haryana tourism, Sameer Pal Srow said: “The department is a party to the first information report. We have constituted a high-level committee headed by the additional managing director, chief engineer and general manager (management) of department to look into the reasons and circumstances which lead to the death of the woman.”

“I have also asked officials concerned make recommendations so such an incident does not happen again,” he said.

The amusement park was given on lease to a contractor by the Haryana tourism department of 10 years in 2013. “When we give any amusement park on contract, we ensure that all terms and conditions regarding to security and safety measures are followed by the contractor. Also, the responsibility to ensure safety lies upon the operator. This thing is made clear during signing of the contract.”
