Robbers’gang busted in Phillaur, 4 arrested

Accused revealed they had looted a Western Union on gunpoint, where they snatched a bag containing ₹11.8 lakh

The district rural police have busted a gang of four robbers and seized looted cash and a revolver from their possession here on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Amandeep (22) of Kotkapura; Rajvir Singh (26) of Pakhi Kallan in Faridkot , Manvinder Singh ( 20) and Davinder Kumar (20), both of Phillaur.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said during a checking in Phillaur, the police team spotted three people on a motorcycle. “When police indicated them to stop, they tried to reverse their motorcycle, but their bike slipped and they fell,” the SSP said. He added that on checking the vehicle, police seized ₹11.8 lakh cash, 1,400 Dirham (United Arab Emirates currency), 653 US Dollar, a pistol along with two live cartridges and a bike from their possession.

The SSP claimed that Amandeep, kingpin of the gang, confessed to have purchased the recovered .12 bore pistol along with two live cartridges from Uttar Pradesh (Bihar) for ₹5,000. He added that another accused, Rajvir, is also a matriculate like Amandeep while two others — Manvir and Davinder — are BA second year students in a local private college.

The SSP said in order to earn easy money, they had formed a gang. He added that during interrogation, the trio revealed about their fourth gang member Davinder Kumar and confessed to have looted Western Union on gunpoint where they snatched a bag containing ₹11.8 lakh, 1,400 Dirham, 653 US Dollar, two chequebooks and one passbook on Wednesday in Phillaur.

Police said all accused have been arrested and a case under Section 392 (robbery) of the IPC has been registered against them.
