Chadha suicide: Court sends eight to judicial remand

AMRITSAR: A local court on Saturday sent former Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president Charanjit Singh Chadha’s younger son Harjit Singh Chadha, a woman principal and six others on 14-day judicial remand.

The accused were arrested on Tuesday when they turned up before the special investigat­ion team (SIT), headed by IG (crime) LK Yadav, constitute­d to probe Charanjit Singh Chadha’s purported viral video and his son Inderpreet Singh Chadha’s suicide cases.

Inderpreet, 52, expelled vicepresid­ent of the CKD, committed suicide by shooting himself in his car on the Ajnala road on January 3.

He was reportedly upset over the controvers­y that erupted after the surfacing of a video showing his father, expelled chief of the CKD, Charanjit Singh Chadah, in an objectiona­ble position with the woman principal.

The accused, who were sent to the judicial remand by judicial magistrate first class Miss Samukhi included the woman principal of a school run by the CKD and her husband, senior director of WWICS Davinder Sandhu, Inderpreet’s business partner Inderpreet Singh Anand, Surjit Singh, Vijay Ummat, Kuljeet Kaur and Inderpreet’s younger brother Harjit Singh.

In the court, police said they had completed their investigat­ion and questionin­g and the accused should be sent to jail.

The court has ordered to send the accused in jail till March 18.

The Amritsar police, however, had also booked Manya, Gursewak Singh, former honorary secretary of CKD, Bhag Singh Ankhi, two members of the CKD Hari Singh and Nirmal Singh for the abetment of Inderpreet’s suicide, but their role is being probed by the SIT.

According to the suicide note of Inderpreet, there are many more suspects, including a politician from Amritsar, whose role is also being investigat­ed, inspector general LK Yadav said.
