COPS SAY THEY GOT A CALL ON SUNDAY MORNING THAT A FAMILY HAD SECRETLY CREMATED THEIR DAUGHTER’S BODY AFTER MURDERING HER

ROHTAK : The father of a 17-yearold girl of Kandela village of Jind district was booked for allegedly murdering her for “honour”, police said on Sunday.

The victim was a school dropout and was allegedly killed after the family found out about her affair with a youth, sources said.

Police said they got a call early on Sunday morning that a family had secretly cremated their daughter’s body after murdering her.

Based on the tip-off, a team of police and fire-brigade reached the crematorium ground and stopped the process midway.

The half-burnt body of the girl was collected from the funeral pyre and sent for post-mortem. Though police said investigation was on, sources in the department said the girl’s family killed her after they found out about her love affair with a youth.

Jind sadar police station in-charge inspector Dinesh Kumar said they have booked the girl’s father under Section 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.

He said no arrest was made as of now and the family was being interrogated.

The incident comes close on the heels of a series of honour killing incidents in Haryana.

Last week, a Class-11 boy in Mahendragarh and a BA final year girl in Bahadurgarh were killed in two separate honour killing incidents.
