KURUKSHETRA: Nearly two months after the bodies of a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old youth of Jhansa village were found in canals, police are now probing the case from the suicide angle after initially suspecting it to be a double murder.

A panel of forensic experts from AIIMS have told the police that the post-mortem reports of the youth and the girl suggest that both died at the same time. Further, there were no signs of sexual assault on the bodies and the cause of death appears to be drowning.Kurukshetra superintendent of police Abhishek Garg confirmed the development and said, “Yes, the panel of doctors from AIIMS have submitted their reports. Now, there is enough evidence to investigate the case from the suicide angle.”

KIN NOT SATISFIED WITH PROBE

Meanwhile, family members of both the victims are not satisfied with police investigation and are demanding a CBI probe. “Our daughter cannot commit suicide. There is no logic behind the suicide theory of the police,” the girl’s father told HT, adding, “We will protest in Panchkula for CBI investigation as we don’t trust the local police, which is now terming it a suicide case, instead of taking action against the people involved in her murder.”

The youth’s father too said his son could not commit suicide. “Why would he commit suicide? He was responsible boy and used to help me in my work whenever he got time from studies,”he said, adding that he will take legal opinion to continue our fight for justice.

THE CASE

The Class-10 girl and her friend studying in Class-12 had gone missing from their village on January 9.

The girl’s body was recovered on January 12 from a canal in Budha Khera village near Safidon town village of Jind district. The boy’s body was recovered from a canal near Kirmach village of Kurukshetra district on January 16. As the body of the girl was found around 120km away from her native village, the police had suspected it to be a case of rape and murder involving her male friend as the main accused.

However, the recovery of the boy’s body changed the course of investigations and left the police back on square one with no leads.
