LIFE MIGHT BE TOUGH AT TIMES BUT REMEMBER THAT HUMANITY NEVER DIES

- Shruti Sharma innervoice@hindustantimes.com

One evening, in February I think, the wind was blowing strong, clouds were dark and then it started raining. The loud thunder and lightning forced me to get up and close the curtains and the doors. I could feel the cold wind on my face, and the song of rain was loud and clear.

I looked outside and my saw a vegetable seller, accompanied by a child. The father and the son covered their cart in a rush, and parked it in front of the house opposite to mine. He then picked up his son and ran to find shelter beside a car under a shed. It had only been a couple of minutes when the owner of the house came out.

He began shouting and insulting him. The poor vendor requested that he stay there till the rains stop, but the owner refused and pushed them out.

The helpless father cursed his poverty and was standing in the middle of the road not knowing where to go. Society can, at times, become cruel and unfair.

Just then, the uncle living in the house below mine called out to the vendor, offering help. He asked him to park his cart near the stairs, sit in the shade until the rains stopped, and took his son inside. I rushed downstairs only to see the vendor sitting with tears in his eyes. I went inside, and aunty asked me, ‘Chai peeoge? I’m making tea.’

Then i realised that humanity can never die. Kindness will always stay alive, if not at one door, it’s sure there at the next one. (Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers. The views expressed are personal)
