4 snatchers held, two cases solved, claim police
DHARMINDER AND MANDEEP NABBED WHILE FLEEING AFTER SNATCHING PURSE OF WOMAN AT ANAND NAGAR ON THURSDAY
AMRITSAR : The district police on Friday claimed to have solved two snatching cases with the arrest of four alleged snatchers from various places of the district.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dharminder Singh aka Soni, Mandeep Singh aka Motu of Cheeche Kalan village, Bharat and Sahil of Sandhu colony.
Addressing a press conference here, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), east, PS Virk, said assistant sub- inspector (ASI) Tarsem Singh of A division police station nabbed Dharminder and Mandeep, who were fleeing after snatching a purse of Sakshi of Anand Nagar on Thursday.
He said the ASI recovered the Bajaj Platina motorcycle used by the accused to commit the crime and the purse containing ₹500.
He said sub-inspector (SI) Talwinder Singh of the same police station arrested Bharat and Sahil during at a ‘naka’ on the Majitha road.
He said both the accused had snatched a mobile phone from Sanjeev Kumar of Amritsar on March 3.
He said, during interrogation, the duo told the police that they were involved in several snatching incidents along with their third accomplice, Gacha of Husainpura.
He said raids are being conducted to arrest Gacha.
The assistant commissioner of police said all the accused have been booked under sections 379 B (snatching), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the A division police station.
“After presenting them in a court, we will take them on police remand for further interrogation,” he said.
