HIMACHAL TO AMEND STATE SPORTS POLICY

The Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha was informed on Wednesday that the state government will bring a new policy to promote sports in the state and also to curb exodus of young sportspers­on from the state. Forest and youth services minister Govind Thakur said the policy will envisage at enhancing sports facility in the state.

Thakur while replying to a question posed by Chamba legislator Pawan Nayyar said the sports policy drafted in 2003 will be amended and the sports department will seek suggestion­s from education department.

The sports department will also study the sports policy of Haryana which has produced some great sports personalit­ies, the minister said, adding that the state government will take effective measures to promote adventure, water and other sports in the state.

‘NATIONAL HIGHWAYS NOT SANCTIONED FOR POLITICAL GAINS’

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday dismissed the Congress allegation­s that 69 national highways were sanctioned by the Centre for political gains ahead of elections. He said the Central government sanctioned an amount of ₹270 crore for preparing the detailed project reports (DPRs).

The CM was replying to a question asked by Congress legislator­s Mukesh Agnihotri, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Satpal Singh Raizada.

Thakur while replying also questioned the Congress for delay in the preparatio­n of DPRs.
