A day after the Panipat police arrested two youths for hurling a brick on health minister Anil Vij’s car in Panipat, the accused were remanded in police custody by a local court on saturday.

The accused, who have been identified as Deepak and his cousin Amit, both residents of Panipat, have been booked under Sections 186, 341, 353, 506 and 34 of the IPC and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Talking to HT, Panipat superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Sharma said the questioning of the accused is on to find out the reason behind the attack.

Vij had escaped unhurt when Deepak hurled a brick on his car when he was leaving after chairing a meeting of the district grievance redressal committee at the mini-secretariat in Panipat on Friday.

Police sources said Deepak is frustrated as his father has passed away and mother works as labourer. He left his graduation in the final year and now works in a private factory.

‘WANT TO FORGET THE INCIDENT’

AMBALA: Health Minister Anil Vij said on Saturday said he has pardoned the accused who had hurled a brick on his car on Friday and wants to forget the matter.

Talking to the media at his residence here, Vij said he does not harbor any ill will against the attacker as it was told by the police that he was in an inebriated condition at the time of incident. Vij said he talked to Panipat SP Rahul Sharma in this regard but the latter told him that the culprit cannot be let off without proper investigations. “The SP said case will be investigated from all angles, including the conspiracy angle.”

He said he does not want to prolong the issue and want to forget the incident as an aberration. “I will have no objection if he is pardoned.” The minister, however, said that there was laxity on the part of the police and the intelligence men.
