KARNAL: India’s youngest-ever gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, Anish Bhanwala, on Sunday received a rousing welcome at his native place in Karnal.

In his first performance in the CWG, the 15-year-old bagged the top prize in the men's 25-metre rapid fire pistol event in the recently concluded games at Gold Coast in Australia.

Anish, a resident of Sector 6, Karnal, is the son of a city-based lawyer, Jagpal, said, “I realised that I have only one chance to become the youngest gold medallist of India in the Commonwealth Games and I gave my best.”

“I focused on my aim and achieved it,” he said while talking to mediapersons. He said that now he will prepare for his Class 10 examination starting from April 16 and then he will leave for the ISSF World Cup-2 in Changwon, South Korea, on April 21.

“There was many challenges but my family always stood behind me. Even my sister Muskan

, who is also a shooter, encouraged me,” he said.

His father Jagpal, who practices at a local court, said, “I noticed that my son has a great interest in shooting and we extended all support to him even

we had to shift to Delhi as there was no shooting range in Karnal and nearby districts.”

Anish’s mother Poonam said her son worked hard to achieve his aim and the almighty also helped him.
