Human beings find themselves endlessly struggling to achieve fame, power and money. This comes from the belief that these acquisitions will enable us to live a comfortable life. On the way in our pursuit, we also allow our momentary pains and pleasures to control our inner peace. But when god is kind enough to bestow his mercy on us, we forget everything and become so possessed with our success that we can’t stop displaying our wealth as a proof of our happiness.

In India, marriages are among the most important social events in life. But never does one see such thoughtless display of money as in a marriage. Right from the ring, jewellery, clothes, destination weddings and multiple parties and celebrations, no effort is spared to make the statement that we are indeed wealthy and powerful.

Wouldn’t it be much better, if the larger part of that money was instead spent on more meaningful ways? There are hundreds of schools that struggle to survive. There are countless other institutions such as hospitals, shelters for women, the destitute that are understaffed and in decrepit condition for want of basic funds.

As for schools, their objectives are focussed on sending out good people in the world, who are generous, charitable, sensitive and considerate. If we train ourselves by harbouring good thoughts and fostering correct actions, this is indeed achievable.
