Jai Ram meets PM Modi, seeks industrial package

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday evening and sought industrial package for the expansion of rail network along in the state with speeding up the constructi­on work of Rohtang Tunnel.

The chief minister also pushed for constructi­on of an internatio­nal airport in the state and demanded adequate funds under UDAN Scheme, which aims to provide air tickets at cheaper price, so that the tourism potential of the state can be exploited to the maximum.

Chief minister said during the meeting that the hill state has vast potential in hydropower sector and PM should allow state government to approve forest clearance of up to five hectares for setting up small power projects.

The state is empowered to grant forest clearance only up to one hectare.

He urged the Centre to provide funding in the ratio of 90:10 (90% by the Central government and 10% by the state) for the implementa­tion of Centre sponsored schemes.

Thakur apprised Prime Minister Modi that the state government has adopted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vision document as the state’s policy document.

The chief minister has also invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Himachal.

CLEAR PROJECTS FOR CONSERVATI­ON OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Chief minister (CM) Jai Ram Thakur urged the Centre to grant clearances to government projects aimed at preserving the state’s natural resources in a meeting with the Union minister for environmen­t, forest and climate change Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi on Sunday.
