Radicals held in Kotkapura sent to 3-day custody, IB to quiz them

Even as a local court remanded two radicalised men, Amar Singh, 48, and Sandeep Singh, 26, arrested from Kotkapura on Thursday to three-day police remand, a team from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) arrived at Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) office in Faridkot to grill the duo. Amar Singh’s family, who hails from Sirsa, claimed he had no links with any Khalistani movement.

Sukhpreet Singh, son of Amar Singh, said, “Sandeep had taken Amar Singh to Bathinda on the pretext of getting medicines from the hospital.”

During police interrogation on Thursday, the accused had disclosed that they were in touch with Gurjant Singh, based in Australia, who has been indulging in a “radicalisation” drive over Facebook. Gurjant also runs an organisation called International Sikh Federation.

On Thursday, Faridkot SSP Nanak Singh had also said, “Gurjant Singh was found involved in financing the Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist module that had carried out targeted killings in Punjab.”

GURJANT DENIES LINK

On Friday, Gurjant updated his Facebook page and denied any links with the two arrested men.

“Such a propaganda is an attempt by me rivals to stop me from filing a case in the Punjab and Haryana High court against Sikh preachers, Rupinder and Jaswinder Singh for seeking their narco test,” he claimed. Gurjant is a supporter of the theory made by police behind the Bargari sacrilege incident in 2015. According to the theory, Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh (both brothers) were responsible, but were being shielded.
