Youth gets 8year RI for raping minor

man in his 20s was sent to eight-year rigorous imprisonme­nt on Friday for raping a minor girl in March 2017.

Additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) Yashvinder Paul Singh awarded the sentence and also imposed a fine of ₹60,000 on him. The court ordered that in case of failure to pay the fine, the convict would undergo imprisonme­nt for another year.

The accused, Puneet alias Golu, belonged to Dharampuri village in Hisar and lived near Naraingarh.

Following a complaint by the victims’ father, he was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO) and on March 28, 2017 the FIR was registered at Women Police Station Ambala City.

The complainan­t alleged that the accused came to his house in the night and forcefully took away his daughter and later raped her.

Prosecutio­n said that the victim, a Class 9 student, had informed her parents in the morning following which, her medical examinatio­n was conducted at the civil hospital, which confirmed rape.

The accused was subsequent­ly arrested.

In another case, the police arrested an Ambala resident, identified as Sunny, for allegedly molesting a minor. He was produced before a local court on Friday that remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.
