Bodies of missing youth, girl recovered, police suspect honour killing

A day after the body of 25-year-old man Sandeep was recovered from a canal in Panipat, the police also recovered the body of 23-year-old girl, Manisha, from a canal in Bhiwani.

According to the police, Sandeep was a resident of Kutail village and Manisha of Karan Vihar of Karnal.

Both of them went missing mysterious­ly on May 6. Sandeep’s body was recovered from a canal in Panipat on Tuesday and Manisha’s body was recovered the next day from a canal in Bhiwani.

The police suspect honour killing but said that the case was being investigat­ed from all angles and the bodies were sent for postmortem.

Superinten­dent of police (SP) Surinder Singh Bhoria said that investigat­ing was on into honour killing too and the cause of the death could only be ascertaine­d in the after the forensic and autopsy reports.

He however said that first hand informatio­ns (FIRs) of the duo missing were already registered and in one of them, the girl’s parents had accused Sandeep of eloping with her.

Namrata Gaur, a member of the Haryana State Commission for Women, took cognisance of the matter and took investigat­ion report from the police and also interacted with the family members of the deceased.

The officials in the police said that the bodies had injury marks on them and the possibilit­y of murder could not be ruled out.
