JALANDHAR: Around a dozen unidentified robbers with their faces covered killed a 26-year-old man and injured six others after barging into a dera at Adampur’s Jandu Singha village on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, police said.

They also decamped with ₹70,000 cash and some gold ornaments, police added.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Singh, who was a dera follower from the same village.

Those injured are dera head Sonia and her other followers Parminder Kaur, Sham Lal, Raman, Joginder Pal and Ravinder Singh, all residents of Jandu Singha.

Adampur station house officer (SHO) Gopal Singh, who is also the investigating officer, said on receiving information, he along with a team rushed to the spot and took the victims to Jalandhar civil hospital.

He said Sandeep was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Initial probe and statements of the victims suggest that a dozen of unidentified people with an intention of robbery entered the dera carrying sharp-edged weapons and attacked the people sleeping there,” the SHO said.

Superintendent of police (SP investigation) Balbir Singh said a case against seven unidentified people has been registered under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 460 (trespass), 459 (grievous hurt caused whilst committing trespass), 458 (trespass by night after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 148 (armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

He said Sandeep’s body was handed over to his family after conducting a postmortem examination.

Initial probe and statements of the victims suggest that around 12 unidentified people with an intention of robbery entered the dera and attacked the people sleeping there.
