Haryana Mahila Cong leader gets her head tonsured
A leader of the Haryana Mahila Congress had her head tonsured on Saturday during the party’s protest to symbolically “mourn” over the alleged increasing crime against women under the BJP rule at the Centre and in the state.
Party workers earlier held a demonstration against BJP to mark the four-years of the BJP rule as ‘Vishwasghaat Divas’’ (betrayal day) and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi near the state party office here.
State party president Ashok Tanwar and Mahila Congress president Sumitra Chauhan told newspersons that Mahila Congress senior vice-president Snehlata Ahlawat and party IT cell coordinator Raghav Vij got their heads tonsured as a mark of protest.
Congress workers were stopped by the local police at a point near the party office where they raised slogans against the BJP for allegedly betraying all strata of the society, be it poor, labourers, farmers, employees, youth and women during its four-year rule at the Centre and in the state.
Tanwar and Chauhan alleged that the BJP has failed to ensure the safety and security of people, especially women, given the spate of crime against them.
Chauhan said that Mahila Congress workers would continue to have their heads tonsured at all the 22 districts headquarters in the days to come as a mark of protest against the BJP rule.
Copies of a booklet ‘India Betrayed – in four years of BJP’s misrule’, issued by the All India Congress Committee, were also distributed on the occasion.
