A 40-year old man died while trying to cross the track at Huda Metro station on Saturday. Police said the man jumped over the rails to reach the platform on the opposite side.

The victim, identified as Bhura Singh, was hit by a train heading towards Delhi. Singh was caught in the sliver of a space between the platform and the train and his stomach was splintered, resulting in his death, police said.

The incident took place around 1.30pm. There was complete chaos at the station after the incident.

A DMRC spokesperson, however, said that passengers were stranded only for around 20 minutes after which services were restored on the line.

Anuj Dayal, executive director, DMRC, issued a statement after the incident, saying, “DMRC advises general public not to cross tracks in this manner as it may prove fatal and affect the Metro services. Crossing/walking on tracks unauthorisedly is a punishable offence under Delhi Metro O&M Act.We appeal to all commuters in the interest of their own safety that they should not enter into unauthorised areas or attempt to cross the tracks in this manner. Police said the victim, Bhoora Singh, was from Katra Makrandpur village in Kanpur, and lived in Kasan village of Manesar. He had gone to his illage on May 23 and was on his way back to the industrial township when the accident took place.
