Amritsar man booked for raping minor domestic help

ON MAY 15, WHEN VICTIM WENT TO WORK AT THE ACCUSED’S HOUSE, HE WAS ALONE. HE TOOK HER TO A ROOM AND COMMITTED THE CRIME

: The Lopoke police booked a man for allegedly raping his 14-year-old domestic help in Haitpura village, 30 km from the district headquarte­rs on Saturday. The accused was identified as Gurmukh Singh alias Sona, 32, of the same village.

In her complaint to the police, the victim said,“On May 15, when I went to work at the accused’s house, he was alone as his wife, along with their children, had gone to her maternal parents’ home.”

She alleged finding her alone, Gurmukh Singh forcibly took her to a room and raped her there.

“The accused threatened to kill me if I told anyone about the incident,” she said.

She said after the incident she stopped going to the house of the accused.

“However, on Friday, when my mother insisted me to go and work at the house, I told her about the incident,” she added. Then, her mother reported the matter to the police.

Sub-inspector Balwinder Kaur said a case under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 has been registered against the accused. The accused is absconding.
