Bihar teen is NEET topper

NEW DELHI: Bihar’s Kalpana Kumari got 691 out of 720 marks or 99.99 percentile to secure the all-India rank (AIR) 1 in NEET 2018, the results declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) showed on Monday.

The 18-year-old Kumari, who is from Sheohar district and attended coaching classes in New Delhi, scored 171 marks out of 180 in physics, 160 in chemistry, and 360 out of 360 in biology, which combines botany and zoology, in the National Eligibilit­y-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2018.

Despite several attempts, topper Kalpna Kumari could not be contacted. “She used to study daily for 12 hours on an average. She has also appeared for AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) entrance examinatio­n, results of which will be declared on June 18,” her sister Bharti said. “She wishes to get into AIIMS, Delhi. Her second preference is Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi,” Bharti added.

Kumari was a student of Navodaya Vidyalaya in Sheohar in Class 10 and has appeared for Class 12 board examinatio­n conducted by Bihar board this year.

Bathinda’s Madhvan Gupta and Ramneek Kaur Mahal have bagged 9th and 10th ranks, respective­ly. Madhvan,18, who scored 680 marks out of 720, wants to be a cardiologi­st. Ramneek, 18, secured 680 marks out of 720. She is hopeful of getting admission in Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi and wants to become a neurologis­t.
