Rohtak youth alleges his wife killed by her parents

KARNAL: In an alleged case of honour killing at Ballah village of Karnal district, a 24-year-old youth from Rohtak claimed his 19-year-old wife was murdered by her family members as she married him against their will.

The police have registered a case of murder against four people, including mother and father of the deceased.

Monu from Makroli village of Rohtak filed a complaint at Assandh police station that his wife Jyoti was murdered by her father on Saturday and their family then cremated her body. Monu also gave a copy of their marriage certificat­e to the police and alleged that the parents of his wife had murdered her for honour. In his complaint, Monu told said he had married Jyoti, a BCom second year student of Government Women college of Karnal in a court in Delhi on March 14. They decided not to disclose this to anybody for next few more days and she went back to her village after marriage.

“On Saturday, she called me up and said her parents came to know of their marriage and they thrashed her. She feared threat to her life from her parents and asked me to take her along. But after that I could not talk to her as her phone was switched off,” Monu said. “Later I tried to talk to her father Rajesh over phone and he told him that she has been killed.” Karnal SP Surender Bhoria said, “Victim’s father Rajesh Kumar, her mother, two cousins Satish and Vicky have been booked for the murder.”
