CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Tuesday informed the Union government that the state has been releasing to Delhi 120 cusecs of water which is more than its allocation and that the state will not be able to supply more water up to June 30, 2018.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who met Union minister for water resources Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Tuesday, said the situation about releasing more water to Delhi after June would depend on availability of water, a government spokesperson said.

The sharing of Yamuna water between Haryana and Delhi has been a contentious legal tussle. Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has moved the Supreme Court against a daily shortfall of 120 cusecs of water from the Yamuna. The contention of the DJB is that Haryana is not supplying 450 cusecs of potable water daily to Delhi.

The spokesperson said chief minister Khattar apprised Gadkari about water-related issues Haryana has with other states and sought his help in solving them.

Gadkari assured Khattar that the Central government would help the Haryana government in finding a solution to the water-related issues with other states.

Interacting with mediapersons after the meeting, the chief minister said discussion was also held with the Union minister on various pending inter-state water disputes, including SYL canal.

The chief minister also informed the Union minister about the shortage of water in southern areas of Haryana due to the construction of dams by Rajasthan on three rain-fed rivers namely, Krishna, Dohan and Sabi.
