KARNAL: Sexually assaulted by her teacher, a 20-year-old former student of a private school attempted to commit suicide by jumping into a canal in Nissing village of Karnal district on Wednesday.

She was rescued by some villagers and admitted to the government hospital in Nissing where her condition was said to be stable.

The police, however, said the accused physical education teacher of Gonder village was arrested on June 2, the same day when the girl had filed a police complaint and was booked under Sections 354, 354 D and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

She had alleged that when she was studying in Class-12 in a local school, the accused used call her to sports room and had assaulted her sexually at several instances. “Now I am disturbed and decided to end my life,” she said. The girl has also accused the school principal of trying to suppress the matter. Moreover, she alleged that police were not taking appropriate action against the principal as she was not arrested yet.

“They even changed my statement in the FIR and misbehaved with my family members when we reached to file police complaint at Nissing police station,” she claimed.

However, Nissing police station in-charge Jaivir Singh refuted the allegations of negligence on the part of the police and said, “The accused teacher was arrested few hours after filing of complaint on June 2. But in her complaint, she did not make any allegation against the principal.”

“Now she has alleged that principal was trying to suppress the matter. The investigation is going on in the case,” he added.

He said that no case has been registered against the principal yet. However, the school principal could not be contacted after repeated attempts.
