NAKODAR: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man allegedly killed his sister-in-law and her paramour at Addi village in Nakodar subdivision on Saturday night, police said.

The deceased have been Lovepreet Kaur (25) and Ashu (28), a resident of the same village. The alleged incident took place when the accused, Bhinda, who is in his twenties, found Ashu with his sister-in-law at their house. Angry over having spotted them together, he attacked him with a sharpedged weapon.

The police said when Lovepreet came to save Ashu, Bhinda also attacked her, leaving her seriously injured. Both the injured died on their way to the Jalandhar civil hospital.

Lovepreet has been living with her in-laws as her husband Thirath Kumar is settled abroad, it was learnt.

Nakodar deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mukesh Kumar said a case under Section 302 (murder) has been registered against Bhinda.

“The accused is absconding and police teams are conducting raids to nab him,” he said.

Lovepreet and Tirath, who works in Qatar (in the Gulf), had got married five years back. Bhinda had also returned from the country last year.

The police said Bhinda suspected a love affair between his sister-in-law and Ashu, who was also married, and a few weeks back he had warned her not to contact the man again.

“When he saw Ashu at their house on Saturday night he got furious.

He took a sharp-edge weapon from another room and attacked Ashu and his sister-inlaw,” assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gagandeep Singh, who is the investigating officer in the case, said.

After hearing the victims’ screams, the neighbours rushed to the spot and found the two in blood and called the police, the ASI said.

The injured were first taken to a local government hospital from where they were referred to the Jalandhar civil hospital where both succumbed to their injuries, the investigating officer further said.

Lovepreet’s mother-in-law Kashmiro claimed that Ashu had come to their house to with an intention to loot and attacked Bhinda with sharp-edged weapon and it was in the ensuing fight that her daughter-inlaw also sustained injuries.
