‘CANCEL FIR AGAINST BAINS; HE IS EXPOSING MILK SCAM’
CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party MLA and leader of opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Friday demanded from chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to cancel the FIR registered against Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains in Ludhiana for allegedly trespassing on Verka Milk Plant.
Accompanied by Bains and other AAP MLAs, Khaira said the FIR is utterly false and an attempt to suppress the voice of the MLA, “who was only acting as a whistleblower to expose a Rs 200-crore milk scam”. “While entering the plant, Bains was accompanied by print and electronic media; his team had already collected samples of milk and got them tested in various laboratories, including those authorised by the Verka plant,” said Khaira .
He said that when Bains confronted the milk plant authorities with the samples and other documents, staff were “speechless” and had “no satisfactory answer”.
Bains alleged that spurious milk is being supplied to the people of Punjab and they are being cheated of Rs 5 to 6.5 per litre. “If multiplied by 11 lakh milk packets that are produced everyday, it means the people are being cheated to the tune of Rs 55-60 lakh per day and Rs 200 crore annually,” he said.
“Unfortunately, instead of initiating stringent action against the corrupt authorities of the milk plant for causing loss to the public exchequer, the Ludhiana police registered false case of trespass, obstruction in duty by government servants, among other charges, against Bains. This vindictive action of the police can rightly be termed as shooting the messenger,” Khaira said.
